The Allium schubertii also known by the common names Ornamental Onion, Flowering Onion, Tumbleweed Onion or Persian Onion, is a spectacular lilac allium that resembles a firework when fully bloomed in early summer. The tumbleweed onion does best when planted late in the year from September to December. When fully grown, this allium can reach a maximum height of 60cm.
The Allium schubertii does best when planted about 10cm deep in well-drained, nutrient-rich soil in a sunny area of the garden. Alliums like this can also benefit from shelter on one side to help prevent the tall flower spikes from being blown over.
