Eremurus

Eremurus (Foxtail Lilies)

15 products

Eremurus’ towering flower spikes (May – July) are a beacon for long-tongued pollinators like the garden bumblebee (Bombus hortorum) and hummingbird hawkmoth (Macroglossum stellatarum), which access nectar hidden in its star-shaped blooms. The plant’s dramatic height (up to 3m) creates aerial foraging zones rarely exploited by other perennials, benefiting hoverflies (Syrphidae) and solitary bees (Megachile spp.). Planted in sunny, well-drained borders it adds vertical diversity to pollinator gardens. Though drought-tolerant, its fleshy roots occasionally attract burrowing mammals like voles, adding to its role in supporting multi-tiered ecosystems. For maximum ecological impact, pair Eremurus with late-summer nectar plants to extend seasonal support, their seed heads also add winter interest.
