Iris Bulbs
Dwarf iris (Iris reticulata and Iris histrioides) provide vital late-winter nectar (February – March) for early bumblebees (Bombus terrestris) and solitary bees (Osmia bicornis), while Dutch cultivars extend the season (May – June), supporting hoverflies (Syrphidae) and honeybees (Apis mellifera). All feature nectar guides that direct pollinators to their pollen-rich centres. Ideal for borders, rockeries, or naturalising in grass, they thrive in well-drained soils. Pair dwarf species with snowdrops (Galanthus) and Dutch irises with alliums (Allium) to create staggered pollinator support from winter through early summer.
