Crocosmia (Coppertips)
Crocosmia’s fiery, tubular blooms (July – September) are a magnet for hummingbird hawkmoths (Macroglossum stellatarum) and bumblebees (Bombus terrestris), which thrive on their nectar-rich flowers. The plant’s sword-like foliage provides shelter for spiders and beetles, while its dense clumps offer nesting sites for ground-nesting bees like Lasioglossum species. Ideal for sunny borders or meadows, Crocosmia pairs well with UK-native knapweed to create pollinator hotspots. Though non-native, its prolonged flowering and drought tolerance make it a valuable resource for urban wildlife gardens, especially during late summer's nectar dearth.
