The Allium stipitatum also known as the Persian Shallot, is a breathtaking allium with tight umbels of star-shaped flowers. The Persian Shallot is a large allium reaching a maximum height 100cm with flower heads that can reach up to 12cm in diameter. This allium is an autumn bulb and as such should be planted later in the year from September to December to achieve impressive blooms in early summer.
The Allium stipitatum does best when planted about 10cm deep in well-drained, nutrient-rich soil in a sunny area of the garden. Taller alliums like this one can also benefit from shelter on one side to help prevent the tall flower spikes from being blown over.
Planting Time: September - December
