About Narcissus 'Golden Sailboat'

Narcissus 'Golden Sailboat' is an elegant spring daffodil with a lighter, more delicate appearance than many of the large traditional trumpet varieties.

The flowers are a fresh lemon yellow, with narrow outer petals that reflex backwards away from the central cup. This swept-back form gives the blooms a distinctive star-like appearance.

The central trumpet is gently flared and finishes with a softly ruffled edge, complementing the slender outer petals.

One of the highlights of 'Golden Sailboat' is its sweet fragrance. Planting it near a path, doorway or seating area allows its scent to be appreciated whenever you pass.

Its later flowering period of April into May also makes it useful for extending a daffodil display after many earlier varieties have finished.

Benefits for UK Wildlife

Spring-flowering Narcissus can form part of a varied wildlife-friendly garden.

  • Flowers may be visited by spring pollinating insects
  • Extends seasonal flowering into April and May
  • Combines well with other pollinator-friendly spring plants

Plant alongside muscari, primroses and other spring flowers to create a longer succession of blooms.

Where to Grow Narcissus 'Golden Sailboat'

  • Fronts of spring borders
  • Patio pots and containers
  • Cottage gardens
  • Rock gardens
  • Naturalised planting
  • Along paths and near seating areas

Its compact growth makes 'Golden Sailboat' particularly useful for smaller spaces and containers, while its fragrance makes it worth planting somewhere close enough to enjoy.

Planting Tips

  • Plant bulbs in autumn.
  • Choose a sunny or partially shaded position.
  • Plant approximately 10–15cm deep.
  • Space bulbs around 10cm apart.
  • Plant in groups for the strongest display and fragrance.

After flowering, remove faded blooms but allow the foliage to yellow and die back naturally. This allows the bulbs to replenish their energy ready for flowering the following spring.
