Gardening Naturally Codling Moth Nematodes
Codling moth nematodes offer an effective solution, covering up to 60m², to combat the challenges posed by Cydia pomonella, commonly known as codling moths. This formulation contains 10 million mixed Steinernema nematodes, providing protection for up to 16 trees—including apple, pear, quince, and nut varieties.
Codling moths follow a predictable life cycle, laying eggs in autumn and releasing larvae in spring. These larvae burrow into fruits, causing internal damage. To break this cycle, we recommend applying codling moth nematodes during key periods: in April/May when larvae hatch, and in September/October when new eggs are laid. This proactive approach disrupts their life cycle, effectively reducing moth populations and safeguarding your produce.
For a comprehensive defence strategy, pair the nematodes with our codling moth traps, which feature pheromone lures. Use these traps during summer to monitor and reduce moth activity, ultimately limiting the number of eggs laid by the season's end.
Pest Appearance
Codling moth larvae appear as small, white caterpillars with brown heads.
Infestation Indicators
Signs of a codling moth larvae infestation include visible boreholes or feeding damage on apples or pears. Early ripening and premature fruit drop may also indicate their presence.
Ideal Application Conditions
Apply when soil temperatures reach a minimum of 12°C.
