This very established flowering clematis, introduced 1873, with large purple-blue blooms with a paler bar, has proven to be a great garden plant. The first set of flowers in June-July are sometimes semi-double, with the second flush, September-October, blooming as single flowers. Happy to grow in any aspect, but does do best in bright sunny situations.
Clematis plants can be either deciduous or evergreen shrubs, herbaceous perennials, or climbers that use twining leaf stalks. Many varieties also produce striking flowers, while some feature fluffy seedheads in autumn.
To ensure the happiness of this plant, it is best to plant it in a location where its roots will remain cool and moist, ideally with some shade provided by lower-growing species. This plant prefers full sun and a well-drained soil.
Height: This plant is usually between 75-90cm tall when it arrives, but can reach 4m. 3L deep rose pots with 90cm cane. Prune code 2, light prune.
Flowers: June-July and September-October.
