This 1.5-2m tall climbing plant boasts green leaves and striking, large flowers made up of typically six violet or purple sepals that gradually turn blue as they mature. With delicate cream stamens, the blooms bloom in the early summer, followed by another blooming in late summer and early autumn. Clematis is known for its bee-friendly qualities, as it attracts bees for pollen and even provides nectar.
Clematis plants can be either deciduous or evergreen shrubs, herbaceous perennials, or climbers that use twining leaf stalks. Many varieties also produce striking flowers, while some feature fluffy seedheads in autumn.
To ensure the happiness of this plant, it is best to plant it in a location where its roots will remain cool and moist, ideally with some shade provided by lower-growing species. This plant prefers full sun and a well-drained soil.
