Large to very large lavender blue flowers with a darker vein are formed throughout May to September. A very old proven variety which was introduced in 1873, unsurprisingly, it has been awarded an RHS AGM for the size of the flower and longevity of the flowering period. Don't be surprised if the early flush of flowers produces the odd double flower.
Clematis plants can be either deciduous or evergreen shrubs, herbaceous perennials, or climbers that use twining leaf stalks. Many varieties also produce striking flowers, while some feature fluffy seedheads in autumn.
To ensure the happiness of this plant, it is best to plant it in a location where its roots will remain cool and moist, ideally with some shade provided by lower-growing species. This plant prefers full sun and a well-drained soil.
