Rosa 'Theo Clevers' (Taste of Love - Edible Rose Collection)

Discover Rosa 'Theo Clevers', a floriferous shrub rose bred for both beauty and the kitchen. This very double, pink rose produces an abundance of petals with a gentle strawberry aroma. Its large clusters of rosette-shaped flowers create a stunning display in your garden. You will enjoy blooms from late spring right through to autumn.

Plant Specifications

  • Also known as: Theo Clevers Shrub Rose
  • Flower type: Very double, rosette-shaped
  • Mature height: 70-80 cm
  • Mature spread: 60-70 cm
  • Aspect: Prefers full sun
  • Soil: Thrives in moist but well-drained soil

Gardening Benefits

This rose supports UK wildlife. Its pollen-rich flowers attract and nourish bees and other beneficial pollinators throughout the long flowering season. Plant four to five per square metre for a full, impactful display. Its manageable size makes it perfect for the middle of a mixed border. It pairs beautifully with medium-sized perennials and other shrub roses. You can also train it next to a pergola or porch. It combines well with perennial climbers like clematis. It grows successfully in a large pot on a sunny patio.

Culinary Uses

  • Flower diameter: 7 cm
  • Average petals: 138
  • Fragrance & taste: Sweet, strawberry notes
  • Harvest: Pick half to fully open flowers in the early morning

Use the plentiful petals for confectionery. Create rose petal jam, syrup, or flavour cakes and ice cream. They make a colourful, edible garnish for salads and cold drinks. This rose's name honours the Dutch ice cream maker who created a special recipe for its petals.

Planting Tips

Dig a hole twice the width of the rootball. Place the plant in the hole so the graft union sits just above soil level. Backfill with soil mixed with compost and water thoroughly. Mulch around the base to conserve moisture.
