Narcissi (Daffodils)
Narcissi’s cheerful spring blooms (February - April) offer early nectar for awakening queen bumblebees (Bombus terrestris) and honeybees (Apis mellifera), with their trumpet shapes suited to long-tongued pollinators. Species like N. poeticus (pheasant’s eye) provide abundant pollen, while their strappy foliage shelters ground beetles and spiders. Planted in drifts under deciduous trees or in meadows, they naturalise readily, creating insect highways. Opt for single-flowered over double cultivars for better pollinator access. Pair with Muscari armeniacum to extend early-season forage in gardens and parks.
