These squirrel-proof (and large bird-proof) bird feeders work by the holes in the surrounding protective cage only being large enough to let in the smaller species of garden bird. Squirrels and larger birds cannot fit through the cage mesh and soon lose interest in the bird feeder. The bird feeder inside is the same quality bird feeder you can buy individually. The bird feeder is mounted on the metal seed catcher tray, which forms the base of the guardian cage. If you want any spilled food to be deflected onto the floor so that the excluded animals can still feed, then the catcher tray can be turned upside down to the desired position (either the seed deflector or the catcher).

The guardians are simple to refill and assemble. The cage simply lifts off when removed from its hanging position for access to the bird feeder. There are no clips or fastenings. It just slots back together. All parts are interchangeable, so you can attach a seed feeder one week or a peanut feeder on another occasion, for example. The product includes the bird feeder of your choice.
