The plant forms tight, vertical shoots that curve gently, resembling the soft movement of flames in water. Each frond grows between 5 and 15 centimetres tall, producing a textured, bushy display that brings depth and contrast to aquascapes. Its dense, softly spiralling structure makes it perfect for attaching to rocks, driftwood, or mesh, creating sculptural forms that look natural yet refined. The lush, deep green colouring remains consistent under varied aquarium conditions, adding elegance to both small and large tanks.

Growing Conditions

Taxiphyllum alternans ‘Taiwan Flame’ thrives in freshwater aquariums with moderate light and clean, well-circulated water. It performs best at temperatures between twenty and twenty-eight degrees Celsius and adapts to a range of pH values near neutral. Although it grows steadily without carbon dioxide, additional CO₂ and balanced fertilisation promote faster development and fuller fronds. The moss grows vertically rather than spreading widely, making it ideal for covering horizontal surfaces such as rocks or driftwood. Attach small sections with fine thread or glue until the plant establishes itself naturally.

Care and Maintenance

This moss is easy to maintain and slow-growing, reducing the need for frequent trimming. Prune occasionally to maintain shape and encourage dense regrowth. Remove detached fragments during water changes to keep the aquarium clear. The plant’s structure provides excellent shelter for shrimp and young fish while improving water quality through natural filtration.
