This compact clematis, known as RE Clematis 'The Duchess of Cornwall' (Evipo118), is perfect for potting and can also be used to enhance a mixed border. Its striking yellow-eyed flowers bloom consistently from midsummer to late autumn, initially displaying vibrant violet-blue tepals. As the summer progresses, the flowers intensify in colour, transforming into a deeper shade of purple and developing a beautiful bluish hue as they age.
Clematis plants can be either deciduous or evergreen shrubs, herbaceous perennials, or climbers that use twining leaf stalks. Many varieties also produce striking flowers, while some feature fluffy seedheads in autumn.
To ensure the happiness of this plant, it is best to plant it in a location where its roots will remain cool and moist, ideally with some shade provided by lower-growing species. This plant prefers full sun and a well-drained soil.
