This deciduous climber is renowned for its attractive violet-blue blooms, which are in full display from April onwards. It is suitable for all aspects and is especially impressive when used to decorate beds and borders. For added impact, it can be trained to climb up a pergola or archway to provide stunning early seasonal colour.

Clematis plants can be either deciduous or evergreen shrubs, herbaceous perennials, or climbers that use twining leaf-stalks. Many varieties also produce striking flowers, while some feature fluffy seedheads in autumn.

To ensure the happiness of this plant, it is best to plant it in a location where its roots will remain cool and moist, ideally with some shade provided by lower-growing species. This plant prefers full sun and well-drained soil.
