The Canna 'Brilliant' is a stunning plant with vibrant red-orange flowers and pale green leaves. Cannas which are also known as canna lilies (despite not being true lilies) are striking plants with clusters of flowers atop tall stems. They begin growing in March or early April, but as they prefer warmer weather, the rhizomes should be kept in heated greenhouses or conservatories until the weather has warmed up around late April where they can be moved outside. If somewhere like this isn't available, planting should be delayed until late April. They will then flower from midsummer to early autumn and can reach an impressive height of 100cm when fully grown
Cannas do best when planted into borders or pots in sheltered but sunny spots in the garden providing them with plenty of light. The lilies should be planted in rich, moisture-retentive soil and should be watered throughout and dry periods.
