Zantedeschia (Calla Lilies)
Zantedeschia’s elegant, trumpet-shaped blooms (June - September) attract hoverflies (Syrphidae) and honeybees (Apis mellifera), drawn to their subtle nectar guides. Though tropical, their lush foliage creates humid microhabitats for ground beetles and spiders in sheltered gardens or near water features. Plant in moist borders or containers with UK-native Mentha aquatica (water mint) to boost pond-edge biodiversity. While frost-tender, their extended flowering period provides late-season resources when many native plants have faded. Their striking form and ecological versatility make them a dual-purpose choice for ornamental and wildlife-friendly urban gardens.
