Lychnis (Campions)
The Lychnis genus, commonly known as campions, offers vibrant blooms that attract pollinators to UK gardens. These hardy perennials provide nectar for bees, butterflies, and hoverflies. Their bright pink, red, or white flowers stand out in borders and wildflower meadows.
Some species, like Lychnis flos-cuculi (ragged robin), thrive in damp soils and support wetland wildlife. Others, such as Lychnis coronaria (rose campion), tolerate drought and suit sunny spots. Birds may eat the seeds in autumn. Plant Lychnis in well-drained soil for best results. Deadhead spent flowers to prolong blooming.
