About Tulipa 'Shiun'

The flowers are the main attraction of 'Shiun'. Large, classically shaped blooms open with a creamy-white base overlaid by broad areas of magenta-purple. Rather than forming a perfectly uniform border, the darker colour appears to brush and feather into the white, giving individual flowers subtle differences in their markings.

The combination is especially effective when several bulbs are planted together. From a distance the flowers create a strong purple and white display, while closer inspection reveals the finer variations in colour across each petal.

Growing Tulipa 'Shiun' in the UK

Plant 'Shiun' bulbs during autumn, ideally between September and November. Choose a sunny position in fertile soil that drains freely, as tulip bulbs perform best where they are not left sitting in wet ground during winter.

Plant the bulbs approximately 10–12cm deep with the pointed end facing upwards, spacing them around 10cm apart. For the best visual effect, plant several bulbs together rather than scattering individual plants throughout a border.
