Tulipa 'Saskia' Bulbs

Cultivate a piece of gardening history in your own garden. Tulipa 'Saskia' is a rare and captivating Darwin Hybrid tulip, first introduced in 1958. It brings a dramatic two-tone display to your spring borders.

You will watch its sturdy stems grow to a height of approximately 50cm. The plant has a spread of about 15cm. In late April to May, it produces large, classic cup-shaped flowers.

  • Striking Colours: The petals are a vibrant yellow, marked with a bold, red 'flame' pattern.
  • Grey-Green Foliage: Its broadly lance-shaped leaves provide a soft, complementary backdrop for the bright blooms.
  • Wildlife Friendly: The simple, open flower cups provide an early source of pollen for foraging bees. This helps support the UK's essential pollinator population when food can be scarce.

Planting and Care Tips

You can also find this variety listed under its common name, a 'Flame Tulip'. For the best results, plant the bulbs in autumn.

  • Choose a spot with well-drained soil and full sun.
  • Plant the bulbs pointy-end up, at a depth of about 15cm.
  • Space the bulbs 10-15cm apart.

As a perennial bulb, it will return for several years. Allow the leaves to die back naturally after flowering to feed the bulb for the next season.

Add a touch of rare, historic charm to your garden with Tulipa 'Saskia'.
