Create a tropical planting display with both breadth and depth using the ProRep Flatpack Terrarium 91.4x45.7x60cm. The wide front gives space for distinct plant groups, while the 60cm height allows selected specimens to sit above the lower foliage. It is a format for a layered indoor garden in which branches, leaves and open areas contribute to the overall view.
Build a landscape with a visible understorey
A suggested arrangement is a pair of securely supported branching features, each carrying a small raised planting group. Keep a gap between them so the lower garden remains visible. Rather than making a continuous wall of foliage, use changes in height to draw attention to a few plants with particularly interesting leaves or growth habits.
The broad front allows these raised features to be offset from the planting below. That helps avoid placing all the lower specimens directly beneath a dense canopy. Allow space for new growth and preserve routes through which you can reach the back, remove leaves and inspect the base.
Choose a selective tropical collection
Compact tropical ferns, manageable Pilea involucrata and small fittonias could provide a contrasting lower layer. Suitable epiphytic bromeliads or miniature epiphytic orchids may be used higher in the arrangement where their particular requirements can be met. These are suggested planting roles, not a promise that every species in these groups will thrive together.
Check temperature preferences, light requirements and mature size before combining plants. Keep mounted roots in an appropriate airy environment and avoid burying epiphytes in ordinary soil. A limited selection of compatible plants is more useful than a large collection with widely different watering and humidity needs.
A glass enclosure with practical front access
Supplied in flatpack form, the terrarium needs assembly before use. Hinged front access helps with planting and ongoing maintenance across the display. Mesh ventilation allows air exchange, the terrarium lock is included and the waterproof base is useful when cleaning and managing the setup.
Air exchange means this is not a sealed, self-regulating ecosystem. Conditions can vary between exposed mounts and sheltered lower planting. Check the actual areas where plants are growing and keep ventilation openings clear of decorative backgrounds, leaves and any separately installed equipment.
Plan coverage, supports and maintenance routes
Choose a firm, level support suitable for the finished setup and follow the supplied assembly instructions. Position decorative materials securely without loading the mesh or stressing the glass. Removable mounts and accessible plant pots can make a broad, layered garden easier to service as individual specimens grow.
Select lighting for both the width and the depth of the planting. A fitting that lights the upper centre may leave the ends or lower foliage in shade. Follow its installation guidance, preserve appropriate leaf clearance and keep the terrarium away from strong direct sunshine.
Water the different root environments according to need and provide access to remove excess water. Choose plants, growing materials and equipment separately. It can be enjoyed entirely as a botanical project; any reptile, amphibian or invertebrate use needs an independent species-specific assessment.
