Give a mixed foliage collection room to become a landscape in the ProRep Flatpack Terrarium 60x45x45cm. The wider front provides space for more than one planting group, while the moderate height keeps the design focused on compact tropical plants. It is a useful format for a small indoor garden with a foreground, a sheltered-looking corner and a clear view between them.
Room to separate and connect planting groups
A suggested arrangement is a fuller cluster at one end, a smaller group at the other and a low branch linking the two. Leave the centre partly open so each group can be appreciated on its own. This can create a more convincing miniature landscape than distributing plants evenly across every available centimetre.
Compared with the 45cm cube in the range, this enclosure adds 15cm of width while retaining the same stated depth and height. That additional span is useful for spacing out plants with contrasting leaf shapes, rather than simply squeezing more specimens into a tightly planted collection.
Select a harmonious foliage palette
The textured leaves of Pilea involucrata could form one feature, with smaller Fittonia albivenis towards the front. A compact tropical fern brings a finer outline. Choose individuals that share suitable warmth, moisture and light requirements, and check how large they will become rather than relying on their size at purchase.
For extra contrast, a suitably small Peperomia caperata can be included where its roots will not remain saturated. Keeping it in an accessible pot may help with individual care. Repeated patches of one foliage colour can connect the scene without requiring a large number of different species.
A practical enclosure for hands-on growing
The glass terrarium is supplied in flatpack form and needs assembly before use. Hinged front access makes it easier to prune, adjust planting and remove unwanted material. Mesh ventilation allows air exchange, a terrarium lock is included and the waterproof base is useful for routine cleaning.
These features provide access and ventilation, not automatic growing conditions. A mesh-ventilated terrarium exchanges moisture with the room, so check humidity and substrate moisture rather than following advice intended for an airtight bottle garden. Keep the ventilation areas clear as the plants fill out.
Plan for the garden after it grows
Position the assembled terrarium on a stable, level support and allow room to open the doors. Arrange decorative pieces securely, keeping access to the back corners. Before planting, picture where your hand or pruning tool will reach when the foliage is larger; a small gap now can prevent a difficult maintenance task later.
Use growing media suited to the chosen plants, and make provision for removing excess water. A waterproof base is not an instruction to keep the roots submerged. Avoid strong direct sun and choose supplementary plant lighting where daylight does not provide adequate coverage across the whole arrangement.
Trim spreading stems before they obscure slower neighbours, and remove deteriorating leaves promptly. Plants, décor, substrate and equipment should be selected separately. The display can remain entirely botanical; any animal occupants need an independent assessment of appropriate space and husbandry.
