ProRep Flatpack Terrarium 450x450x600mm

Bring another level to your indoor planting with the ProRep Flatpack Terrarium 45x45x60cm. Its 60cm height gives you scope to arrange suitable plants above a lower foliage layer, rather than keeping everything on the floor. The square base provides a manageable setting for a compact vertical garden built around cork, branching wood or individually supported plant mounts.

Use height without losing the foreground

A suggested layout is a planted branch rising from one rear corner, with smaller foliage grouped around its base. Keep the opposite side more open so that the upper planting remains visible. This creates a sense of height while preserving space for low-growing plants and access to the growing medium.

Think about how the display will develop over time. Leaves should not immediately press against the glass or mesh, and any trailing stems need a clear route that avoids the doors. Plan the height of decorative pieces after allowing for the substrate and the clearance required beneath your chosen lighting.

Combine rooted plants with suitable epiphytes

Compact tropical ferns and small Fittonia albivenis could form a lower planting layer. Above them, a carefully selected miniature epiphytic orchid or small epiphytic bromeliad can introduce a different growth habit. Epiphytes naturally grow on other plants for support, so their roots need an appropriate mount or growing medium rather than burial in ordinary terrarium soil.

Choose these plants by their individual requirements, not just their appearance. Some orchids require cooler temperatures or more light than a typical warm foliage display provides. Small bromeliads also vary in mature spread. A few compatible specimens will be easier to accommodate than plants with competing needs or rapidly expanding leaves.

Practical access to a taller display

This glass enclosure is supplied flatpacked for assembly before use. Hinged front access allows you to work on both lower and raised planting without relying entirely on reaching down from above. Mesh ventilation supports air exchange, a terrarium lock is included and the waterproof base is useful for cleaning.

Because the terrarium is ventilated, humidity will vary with the surrounding room and your care routine. Mounted plants may dry differently from those rooted in substrate. Check both areas rather than assuming that one reading or one watering method describes the conditions throughout the display.

Plan supports, watering and light together

Assemble the terrarium on a suitable level support and follow the supplied instructions. Secure branches and mounts independently of delicate leaves, and do not use the mesh as a load-bearing plant support unless the manufacturer permits it. Leave access around each specimen so that plants can be removed or divided as they grow.

Use a plant light where necessary, checking that the lower foliage receives adequate light without placing upper leaves too close to the fitting. Avoid strong direct sunshine. Water each part of the planting according to its needs, and arrange the base so excess water can be removed.

Choose the plants, growing materials and any additional equipment separately. The terrarium is equally enjoyable without animals; livestock suitability needs its own species-specific assessment.

Dimensions: 45cm wide x 45cm deep x 60cm high (450x450x600mm).

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the benefit of a 60cm-high planted terrarium?

The extra height gives more scope for upright decorative features, small mounted plants and a lower foliage layer. It does not all become usable planting height: substrate, the enclosure’s structure and clearance below lighting must also be allowed for.

Can I grow miniature orchids in the ProRep Flatpack 45x45x60cm?

Potentially, with careful species selection and appropriate equipment. Choose orchids whose mature size, temperature, light and humidity needs match the conditions you can provide. Epiphytic orchids need suitable mounts or airy orchid media; the enclosure alone does not create an orchid-growing climate.

Can plants be attached to branches inside this terrarium?

Suitable epiphytic plants can be mounted on securely positioned branches or cork. Use appropriate attachment methods that do not damage roots, and keep the mounts accessible. Do not hang heavy arrangements from the ventilation mesh without manufacturer approval.

Will plants at the bottom get enough light?

That depends on the light source, planting density and position of the upper leaves. Plan the layout to avoid deep shade over the lower plants. A separate plant light should be selected for coverage at the actual growing positions, not just the enclosure’s overall dimensions.

How do I water a terrarium with mounted and potted plants?

Treat each growing area according to its needs. A mount may dry while the lower substrate remains moist, so misting or watering everything equally can cause problems. Check the plants and their root zones separately, and remove excess water from the base.
