Build a miniature tropical garden with a balanced shape and a clear view of the planting in the ProRep Flatpack Terrarium 45x45x45cm. Its cube proportions offer space for a low foreground, a central foliage feature and a slightly taller backdrop. For plant growers, it is a useful format for combining several leaf shapes without committing to an extra-tall display.

A cube that encourages a complete landscape

The equal width, depth and height make it easy to think beyond a single row of plants. Place a textured piece of wood off-centre, then use smaller plants to lead the eye around it. An open patch at the front gives the display a sense of depth and leaves somewhere to work during maintenance.

This size also suits a restrained collection arranged in removable pots. Concealing the pots behind appropriate décor lets you keep a natural appearance while lifting individual plants out for repotting. It is a practical alternative to planting everything into one shared bed, particularly while you learn how the enclosure behaves.

Mix leaf textures, not conflicting care needs

Consider the patterned leaves of Fittonia albivenis, the ridged foliage of Peperomia caperata and a compact tropical fern. Small plants with different textures can create variety without relying on flowers. Choose forms that will remain manageable, and check their mature dimensions before adding them to the layout.

The textured foliage of Pilea involucrata is another possibility where suitable warmth and humidity can be provided. Allow room for growth and trim when necessary. Do not combine moisture-loving foliage with desert plants simply because both are sold as terrarium plants: the whole planting scheme should suit the conditions you intend to maintain.

Glass construction with accessible planting

The ProRep enclosure arrives flatpacked and requires assembly. Hinged front access helps with arranging plants and reaching the growing medium, while mesh ventilation allows air exchange. The included terrarium lock secures the opening, and the waterproof base supports practical cleaning and maintenance.

Ventilation is useful, but it also means that water vapour can escape. This is not an airtight ecosystem that can be watered once and forgotten. Check humidity where the plants are growing, keep the mesh unobstructed and adjust watering according to the condition of the roots and substrate.

Make the garden easy to look after

Set the terrarium on a firm, level surface and assemble it according to the supplied instructions. Position heavier decorative pieces securely before planting, without stressing the glass. Keep growing medium below openings and leave clearance for the doors, remembering that the stated height includes space that will be occupied by the base and planting layers.

Use appropriate indirect light or a separately chosen plant light. Water in measured amounts and remove excess water; a drainage layer does not make surplus moisture disappear. The waterproof base should not be interpreted as a rating for aquarium use or a deep water feature.

Plants, growing medium, décor and lighting should be planned separately. Enjoy it as a plant-only display, or assess any animal use independently against the needs of the species concerned.
