Bring several layers of small-scale planting together in the ProRep Mini Terrarium 31x31x30cm. Its generous proportions within the Mini range allow a low foreground, a compact foliage group and a restrained upright feature to share the scene. The result could be a miniature tropical garden with depth and variety, while remaining small enough to plan and care for at close range.
Balance height with planting depth
The 31cm square footprint gives you space to arrange plants from front to back as well as across the width. One possible layout places a small fern behind a piece of wood, with lower foliage beside it and an open mossy foreground. Keep the main features offset rather than lining everything up against the rear glass.
At 30cm high overall, this model offers more scope for modest upright planting than the low versions. Account for roots, growing medium and any internal decoration before selecting the tallest plant. The aim is to create visible layers without filling every part of the enclosure or making the back corners impossible to reach.
Choose a manageable plant community
A genuinely compact tropical fern and a small Fittonia could provide contrasting textures, with suitable terrarium moss used as an accent. Alternatively, build the display around a small tropical Peperomia with interesting leaf shape. Select compatible plants rather than combining every suggestion, and check the requirements of the particular species or cultivar.
Good spacing is especially useful when combining plants with different growth rates. A creeper that looks modest at first may soon overtake a slower specimen. Keep boundaries accessible, and choose plants whose expected size fits the enclosure instead of relying on frequent drastic pruning to make an unsuitable collection work.
Glass viewing with practical top access
Tempered glass panels show the planting from the front and sides. The sliding mesh lid provides access from above for arranging plants, removing debris and making small adjustments. Raised feet leave an air gap below the base. Allow working clearance around the top, especially if the terrarium will sit beneath a shelf.
Ventilation through the mesh means moisture can escape to the room. This is not a sealed ecosystem with a guaranteed humidity level. Check the conditions after planting and during seasonal changes, particularly when heating makes the indoor atmosphere drier.
Build around long-term plant care
Use a growing medium chosen for the plants and provide enough root space without piling the substrate unnecessarily high. Water according to the condition of the root zone. Any lower reservoir remains inside the enclosure, so it must not be allowed to rise into the planting or become an excuse for routine overwatering.
Supply suitable indirect light, checking that taller leaves do not leave the foreground in deep shade. A separate grow light may help, provided it covers the planted area and is installed safely. Avoid strong direct sunshine and leave room for cleaning the glass and trimming growth.
Choose plants, décor and equipment separately. The enclosure also has animal-housing applications, but suitability must be established independently for the species, its adult space needs and the completed habitat.
