ProRep Mini Terrarium 300x300x200mm

Explore the patterns of a low-growing indoor garden with the ProRep Mini Terrarium 30x30x20cm. The square footprint gives you room to arrange foliage across the ground rather than building a tall display. Small leaves, soft moss and a modest stone or piece of wood can create a landscape that rewards a closer look from both the front and the sides.

Use the square footprint creatively

A diagonal arrangement is one way to make the most of this shape. Place a small feature towards one rear corner, then carry lower planting across towards the opposite foreground. Leaving a visible strip of growing surface between the groups can suggest a pathway without using up space on elaborate decoration.

The 30cm depth provides more room for front-to-back composition than the narrower rectangular models. However, the enclosure is only 20cm high overall. Keep the planting and growing medium proportionate, allowing enough space above the roots for new leaves and unobstructed movement of the lid.

Let contrasting foliage set the pace

A carefully trimmed Pilea depressa could contribute small, rounded leaves, while a compact Fittonia offers a contrasting veined pattern. Treat these as possible choices rather than a fixed recipe: select forms that suit the available space and can share the light, temperature and moisture conditions you provide.

Use suitable terrarium moss as a separate patch rather than automatically covering the entire surface. Groundcover plants can spread into neighbouring areas, so keep their boundaries accessible for trimming. A limited selection of healthy plants will be easier to manage than a tightly packed carpet whose individual root zones are impossible to inspect.

Top access for a low landscape

The sliding mesh lid gives access from above, which is useful when positioning small plants across the square base. Tempered glass sides keep the ground-level arrangement visible. Raised feet lift the enclosure off the supporting surface, leaving space for air to pass underneath rather than creating drainage through the base.

Keep enough room above the terrarium to reach each corner. The mesh lid allows air exchange, so the setup behaves differently from an airtight bottle garden. Check the actual growing conditions, especially for moisture-sensitive moss and foliage, instead of assuming that the lid locks in a fixed humidity.

Keep the roots healthy and the view open

Choose growing medium to suit the planting, with enough depth for the roots but no unnecessarily thick decorative layers. Add water in controlled amounts. Any water collected below the planting remains inside the enclosure until it evaporates or is removed; lower layers cannot correct repeated overwatering.

Site the display in suitable indirect light, away from strong direct sunshine. A separate grow light can help where daylight is inadequate, but its coverage needs to reach the whole planted footprint. Do not sacrifice access by crowding equipment directly above the lid.

Trim spreading stems, remove fallen leaves and keep a clear view into the planting. Select plants, décor and equipment separately. Animal use may also be possible, but only after checking the species' adult space requirements and the suitability of every element of the setup.

Dimensions: 30cm wide x 30cm deep x 20cm high (300x300x200mm).

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a low, wide terrarium best used for?

This shape lends itself to low foliage, moss and ground-level landscapes rather than tall climbing displays. The 30x30cm footprint allows planting groups at different depths. Its 20cm overall height still needs to accommodate the base, growing medium, roots and the finished foliage.

Can I grow a carpet of plants in this terrarium?

You can create a low groundcover effect using suitable small plants, but it will need management. Creeping species may spread faster than expected. Leave access for trimming and avoid allowing dense growth to hide deteriorating leaves or consistently wet growing medium.

Is the 30x30x20cm model deeper than the 31x21x20cm model?

Yes. Its listed front-to-back depth is 30cm rather than 21cm, while both models are 20cm high overall. The square model therefore gives more depth for arranging planting. Their listed widths are also different: 30cm and 31cm respectively.

Can Fittonia and Pilea grow together in a terrarium?

Compatible small forms can be considered together when their light, warmth and moisture requirements can be met. Fittonia needs humid air and moist but not waterlogged compost, while creeping Pilea needs room and trimming. Check the exact plants rather than assuming every species or cultivar is interchangeable.

Does the square footprint mean I need a larger grow light?

It means the light needs suitable coverage across a 30x30cm planted area, not just a bright spot in the centre. The correct fitting depends on the plants and mounting height. Follow the light manufacturer’s guidance and keep it clear of the sliding lid and routine access.
