ProRep Mini Terrarium 300x210x300mm

Frame a layered miniature garden with the ProRep Mini Terrarium 30x21x30cm. Its combination of a 30cm-wide front, a shallower 21cm depth and 30cm overall height creates an inviting space for a planted backdrop and low foreground. It is a good shape to consider when you want more visual width than a narrow tower without choosing a deep, square enclosure.

Compose a scene from front to back

Use the rear of the terrarium for one restrained upright feature, such as a slender piece of cork or a compact fern. A low planted area in front gives a sense of depth without needing bulky decoration. Keeping one side more open also lets the shape of each leaf stand out against the glass.

The 21cm front-to-back measurement makes it especially important to account for any background material. A thick panel or large piece of wood can take up a substantial part of the planting area. Try the arrangement before adding growing medium, and check that there is still space for roots and a comfortable route for maintenance tools.

Combine a few complementary plants

A small tropical fern could provide the upright texture, with a compact Fittonia creating a lower patch of veined foliage. Use only forms whose eventual dimensions fit the enclosure, and choose plants with compatible growing needs. Keeping the palette limited can make the finished display feel more coherent than a mixture of unrelated specimens.

Suitable terrarium moss may be used sparingly around an exposed section of décor. Leave enough clear ground to inspect the planting rather than covering every surface immediately. The foliage will change as it settles in, so a little empty space at the start allows the arrangement to develop without becoming difficult to manage.

Accessible planting behind clear glass

Tempered glass panels provide views of the layered scene. Access is through the sliding mesh lid at the top, rather than a door in the front. Keep tall leaves, bark and any light fitting clear of the opening so that regular care does not become awkward. The raised feet leave an air gap below the base.

The mesh top permits ventilation, but it also lets moisture escape. This is not an airtight terrarium that can be left to recycle its water indefinitely. Humidity-loving plants need conditions checked after planting, particularly when indoor heating makes the surrounding air drier.

Plan the practical details first

Select a clean growing medium that supports the chosen root systems without remaining waterlogged. The final substrate level reduces the usable height for foliage. Water cautiously and keep access to any area where excess water might collect; a layer beneath the compost does not provide an outlet from the enclosure.

Provide suitable indirect light and check that the upper planting does not shade everything below. A separate plant light may be useful away from a bright window. Avoid strong direct sunshine and keep the terrarium on a stable surface with space to operate the lid.

Plants, growing materials and equipment should be chosen separately. The design also has animal-housing uses, but compatibility with any species must be assessed independently of this suggested planted layout.

Dimensions: 30cm wide x 21cm deep x 30cm high (300x210x300mm).

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this ProRep Mini Terrarium 30cm or 31cm wide?

ProRep lists this particular model as 300x210x300mm, equivalent to 30cm wide, 21cm deep and 30cm high. Do not confuse it with the separate 310mm-wide models in the range. Leave additional space for practical access rather than choosing a shelf with no clearance.

What is the advantage of a shallow-depth terrarium?

This model offers a 30cm-wide view while using a listed front-to-back depth of 21cm. That can suit a display positioned against a wall, with taller planting behind a low foreground. A thick background reduces the available depth, so keep the internal design proportionate.

Can I add a planted background to the 30x21x30cm terrarium?

A carefully planned background or small cork feature is possible. Allow for its thickness, secure it using appropriate terrarium-safe methods and keep it clear of the sliding lid. You still need room for roots, foliage and top access to the lower planting.

Which plants work well in a layered mini terrarium?

A genuinely compact tropical fern, small Fittonia and suitable terrarium moss are possible starting points. Choose compatible growing requirements and check mature dimensions. Keep taller foliage towards the back without allowing it to shade or crowd the smaller plants.

Can this terrarium be kept on a shelf?

Yes, on a stable shelf that supports the completed setup and accommodates the enclosure with working clearance. Check the actual unit before relying on a close fit. Leave enough room to slide the lid open, reach the plants and install any separately chosen lighting safely.
