Enjoy the detail of a miniature moss garden with the ProRep Mini Terrarium 20x20x15cm. This low glass enclosure gives tiny plants, textured stones and carefully placed pieces of bark a setting of their own. Its compact square footprint suits a small indoor display where you can appreciate the planting at close range, without making room for a tall terrarium.
Think small, and keep the planting low
At just 15cm high, this model is best approached as a landscape close to the ground. A few patches of living moss around a small stone could suggest a miniature clearing, while a short piece of weathered-looking wood adds contrast. Leaving some space between those features helps each texture remain visible as the display develops.
The stated height is not all available for leaves. Growing medium, plant roots and the enclosure's construction take up space, so plan the finished planting from the bottom upwards. Avoid deep decorative layers that leave little room for growth. A simple arrangement is easier to tend than a crowded collection of plants already touching the lid.
Choose genuinely miniature plants
Start with nursery-grown moss sold for terrarium cultivation and check that it suits the conditions you can provide. Mosses vary in their temperature, moisture and light preferences; an attractive patch from outdoors is not automatically a good indoor choice. Combining one or two compatible moss types can create interest without needing taller foliage.
A tiny creeping foliage plant could be introduced as an accent, provided it tolerates the same conditions and you are prepared to trim it. Choose for eventual size rather than nursery pot size. Most ordinary houseplants will quickly overwhelm a display this shallow, so save upright ferns and larger foliage plants for a taller enclosure.
Clear viewing and access from above
Tempered glass panels let you follow the planting from the sides, while the sliding mesh lid gives access from above for arranging, trimming and removing debris. There are no front-opening doors to work around. The raised feet lift the base off its supporting surface, leaving an air gap underneath.
The mesh top allows air exchange, making this a ventilated terrarium rather than an airtight bottle garden. That distinction matters for moss: humidity and moisture still need checking, particularly in a dry room. The enclosure does not automatically maintain the conditions your plants need.
Build a display you can maintain
Use a growing surface appropriate to your chosen plants, and add water cautiously rather than saturating the base. Thick gravel layers do not remove excess water from a container. Keep the layout accessible so that a small pipette or other suitable tool can reach any unwanted pooling without disturbing the whole garden.
Position the terrarium in suitable indirect light, away from strong direct sunshine and radiators. Add a separate plant light where natural light is insufficient, following its installation guidance. Check the moss and growing medium regularly, and remove deteriorating material promptly.
Plan plants, substrate, décor and any lighting separately. This makes an absorbing plant-only project; any proposed animal use needs an independent assessment of species-specific space and care requirements.
