Exo Terra Pro Terrarium™ Medium Low
The Exo Terra Pro Terrarium Medium Low combines a broad planting area with a deliberately low profile. Measuring 60 x 45 x 30cm, it is well suited to a collection of compact tropical plants, a shallow foliage landscape or a display built around miniature details. Choose it when easy access and room across the base matter more than space for tall background planting.
A useful format for a plant collection
Instead of creating one permanent landscape, consider arranging a series of small pots within the enclosure. You could group plants by leaf shape, repeat a favourite variety or leave a clear working space between specimens. A simple arrangement makes it easier to notice new growth and compare how each plant is developing.
Alternatively, create a continuous planted scene using low decoration and restrained changes in level. Keep the overall composition horizontal. The aim is to make use of the width without filling the limited height with thick substrate layers or bulky structures that leave little room for foliage.
Select genuinely compact plants
Small Fittonia, suitable compact Peperomia and miniature tropical ferns are possible starting points. Check the particular variety before choosing it. The height printed for the enclosure includes the space occupied by pots and planting materials, so the available headroom will be less than 30cm.
A collection can look coherent without every plant being identical. Try keeping the pot style consistent and using leaf colour as the main variation. For a more natural appearance, conceal pots carefully with suitable decoration while keeping the containers removable and their drainage openings functional.
Two access points across the front
The dual front doors use push latches and integrated locking, making it convenient to reach different parts of the display. A removable, lockable stainless steel mesh top offers access from above. Three-position adjustable ventilation helps you change airflow as the setup develops.
Rear cable and tubing inlets, internal tubing channels and nozzle attachment points simplify equipment routing. The terrarium is prepared for an Exo Terra Monsoon misting system, supplied separately. A raised bottom frame completes the practical enclosure design.
Organise care around individual plants
Removable pots let you inspect roots, refresh growing medium or take out a specimen without dismantling the whole display. Plants still share the same air and overall environment, however, so separate pots do not isolate pests or make incompatible temperature requirements disappear. Inspect new plants before introducing them.
Provide lighting across the full planting area, checking that the outer groups are not left in deep shade. Water according to the needs of the plants and their growing media. Keep a way to collect and remove runoff, and do not rely on a hidden layer of water as a substitute for proper moisture checks.
The Medium Low is a practical choice for growers who enjoy observing and adjusting a compact collection. Leave space for hands or tools at the back of the arrangement and keep the front ventilation unobstructed. Any use for animals should be assessed separately against the species' adult size and husbandry requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Medium Low a good terrarium for a collection of small plants?
Yes, its broad, low format can suit compact plants arranged in individual pots or a shallow landscape. Allow room for each plant's mature foliage rather than filling every available gap.
Can I use the Medium Low for plant propagation?
It can provide a sheltered growing space for suitable tropical cuttings when light, temperature and moisture are managed appropriately. It is not a heated propagator, and success depends on the plant and propagation method.
How much taller is the Medium Wide than the Medium Low?
The Medium Wide is 45cm high and the Medium Low is 30cm high. Both have stated width and depth measurements of 60 x 45cm.
Does keeping plants in separate pots prevent pests spreading?
No. Separate pots make individual plants easier to remove and inspect, but pests can still move through a shared enclosure. Check new plants carefully and isolate anything suspect before adding it.
Can I build a deep planted background in the Medium Low?
A bulky background is usually an inefficient use of this low format. Keep decoration slim and account for substrate depth. A taller terrarium is a more practical choice for substantial vertical planting.
