Exo Terra Pro Terrarium™ Large Tall
The Exo Terra Pro Terrarium Large Tall offers an expansive setting for a planted tropical display with interest from the ground upwards. Measuring 90 x 45 x 60cm, it combines a broad frontage with space for upright features, selected epiphytes and lower foliage. It is a useful choice for an ambitious indoor garden where the arrangement matters as much as the individual plants.
Plan a rainforest-style composition
Use the width to separate the main features and the height to connect them visually. A branching structure towards one end, a leafy middle layer and a lower open area can create a scene with depth without filling every surface. Keep at least one clear view into the back of the enclosure.
Work with a sketch before adding permanent materials. Mark where individual pots or mounts will sit, how you will reach them and where future growth can develop. A more complex display benefits from a simple underlying structure, making it easier to adjust the planting without rebuilding the whole terrarium.
Grow a carefully matched collection
Suitable compact tropical ferns can form the lower planting, with small bromeliads or miniature epiphytic orchids considered for selected raised positions. Choose each plant for the conditions you intend to maintain. Plants described as tropical do not all share the same temperature, light or root-moisture requirements.
The additional space is valuable, but it does not turn every houseplant into a long-term terrarium candidate. Check mature size, including leaf spread and climbing growth. Leave individual specimens room to develop, and avoid using fast-growing plants merely to make the display appear full immediately.
Features for building and caring for the display
Dual front-opening doors with push latches and integrated locks allow access across the enclosure. The removable stainless steel mesh top also locks into position and helps when installing upright decoration. Three-position adjustable ventilation allows the front vent opening to be altered.
A deep waterproof base supports planted arrangements. Rear cable and tubing inlets, internal channels and nozzle attachment points help organise equipment, including an optional Exo Terra Monsoon misting system. The misting system is not included.
Manage the whole growing environment
Plan light coverage across both the length and the height of the planting. Upper leaves can shade lower specimens, so leave breaks in the canopy and choose appropriate positions. Measure conditions where sensitive plants will actually grow rather than judging the setup from how bright or humid it appears at the front.
Arrange drainage and watering access before the display becomes dense. Water dripping from higher plants may collect around those below, and a reservoir beneath the substrate still needs checking and emptying. Keep roots in conditions appropriate to the species and preserve access to the base.
Install the Large Tall on a level, stable support suitable for the finished weight, leaving clearance for doors, lid and lighting. The result can be a substantial plant-only feature with space to develop over time. Animal use remains an option only where the final habitat meets the proposed species' adult space and care requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Large Tall a good terrarium for a large tropical plant display?
Its 90 x 45 x 60cm dimensions offer scope for a broad, layered arrangement. Choose plants for their mature size and allow for the space occupied by substrate, supports and decoration.
Can I grow Nepenthes in the Exo Terra Large Tall?
Selected compact or young Nepenthes may suit a dedicated setup with appropriate light, temperatures, water quality and growing medium. Many develop into large vines, so this is not automatically a permanent home for every species.
Can all tropical plants share the same terrarium?
No. Tropical plants come from varied habitats and may need different temperatures, light levels and moisture conditions. Choose a compatible collection rather than relying on the tropical label alone.
How do I stop upper plants shading the lower planting?
Leave gaps between higher plants, avoid a continuous canopy beneath the lighting and position lower-light species thoughtfully. Check the arrangement as leaves enlarge and trim or move plants when needed.
Does the Large Tall need automatic misting?
Not necessarily. Manual watering can work when every plant is accessible. Automatic misting can add convenience, but its coverage and schedule must suit the planting and still require regular monitoring.
