Neoregelia 'Fireball'

Nidularium ‘Fireball’ is a compact bromeliad valued for its vivid colour and resilient structure. In its natural habitat, it grows as an epiphyte on trees, though it adapts easily to life as a houseplant. The plant forms dense rosettes of long, leathery, strap-like leaves that arch gracefully from short, sturdy stems. The foliage is glossy green in shade but transforms to rich pinkish-red tones when exposed to sunlight, giving the impression of glowing embers. Mature plants may produce small, purple flower bracts from the centre of each rosette during summer, adding subtle contrast to the fiery leaves.

Growing Conditions

Nidularium ‘Fireball’ thrives in bright, indirect light with occasional exposure to gentle sun, which enhances its red colouring. It prefers warm, humid surroundings and a free-draining compost containing bark or perlite. Maintain a shallow pool of water in the central cup of the rosette, replacing it regularly to prevent stagnation. The roots serve mainly for anchorage, so avoid overwatering the soil. Ideal temperatures range between eighteen and twenty-four degrees Celsius, with good air circulation to keep the foliage fresh. It performs well in bathrooms, kitchens, or conservatories where humidity remains stable.

Care and Maintenance

This bromeliad is simple to care for. Empty and refresh the central water every week, and mist the leaves lightly to raise humidity. Feed monthly during spring and summer with a diluted, balanced fertiliser applied to the rosette rather than the soil. Remove faded flower bracts after blooming to preserve its tidy appearance. Offsets, known as pups, appear at the base and can be separated once established to propagate new plants.

Environmental Benefits

Nidularium ‘Fireball’ introduces tropical colour and texture to interior displays. It contributes to improved air freshness and visual warmth, brightening small spaces through its radiant foliage and effortless charm.
