Nemaslug 2.0 Biological Slug Killer (Phasmarhabditis californica)

Nemaslug 2.0 contains the beneficial nematode Phasmarhabditis californica, a natural biological slug control that helps reduce slug damage in flower beds, borders, vegetable plots, raised beds and containers. These microscopic organisms live naturally in the soil and actively seek out slugs beneath the surface, helping to protect vulnerable plants without the need for traditional slug pellets.

Once applied, Nemaslug works day and night to target slugs where they spend much of their time. As the nematodes multiply, they spread through the soil, providing ongoing protection against many common garden slug species. Unlike broad-spectrum pesticides, Nemaslug is highly specific and does not harm beneficial insects, earthworms, birds, hedgehogs, pets or other garden wildlife.

Nemaslug is supplied as a simple-to-use powder that is mixed with water and applied using a watering can or suitable sprayer. For best results, apply to moist soil when temperatures are above 5°C and continue to keep the area damp for at least a week after treatment. Spring and autumn are often the most effective times to apply, although Nemaslug can be used throughout the growing season whenever slugs are active.

Suitable for ornamental gardens, vegetable patches, greenhouses and allotments, Nemaslug provides an effective, wildlife-friendly way to reduce slug damage naturally.

Application Advice

  1. Dissolve the entire contents of the pack in a bucket containing 4 litres of water to create the stock solution.
  2. Stir thoroughly, then add 500ml of the solution to a 5 litre watering can fitted with a coarse rose and top up with water.
  3. Apply evenly to a 5m2 area.
  4. Repeat until the entire area has been treated.

A 40m2 pack requires approximately 8 watering cans of diluted solution (40 litres of water in total). For the 100m2 pack, prepare the initial stock solution using 10 litres of water and apply using approximately 20 watering cans to cover the full treatment area.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Nemaslug?

Nemaslug contains the beneficial nematode Phasmarhabditis californica, a naturally occurring microscopic worm that helps control common garden slugs. Once applied to moist soil, the nematodes actively seek out slugs beneath the soil surface and help reduce damage to flowers, vegetables and ornamental plants.

Do slug nematodes really work?

Yes. Slug nematodes have been used successfully by gardeners for many years as a biological alternative to slug pellets. When applied correctly and kept moist, they can significantly reduce slug populations and feeding damage.

When should I apply Nemaslug?

Nemaslug can be applied whenever soil temperatures are above 5°C. Spring and autumn are usually the best times, as slug activity is high and soil conditions are naturally moist.

How long does Nemaslug last?

A single application typically provides protection for around six weeks. During periods of heavy slug activity, repeat applications may be required to maintain control.

Is Nemaslug safe for pets, wildlife and edible crops?

Yes. Nemaslug is safe to use around pets, birds, hedgehogs, bees, earthworms and other beneficial wildlife. It can also be used around fruit, vegetables and edible crops.

Will Nemaslug control snails?

Nemaslug is primarily designed to control slugs. While some small snail species may be affected, it should not be relied upon as a dedicated snail control treatment.

How do I apply Nemaslug?

Mix the nematodes with water according to the instructions supplied and apply using a watering can or suitable sprayer. Water the area afterwards and keep the soil moist for at least seven days to help the nematodes remain active.

Which slugs does Nemaslug control?

Nemaslug is effective against many common garden slug species, including grey field slugs and keeled slugs that damage hostas, vegetables, bedding plants and ornamental borders.

Can Nemaslug be used in raised beds and containers?

Yes. Nemaslug can be used in borders, vegetable plots, raised beds, greenhouses, containers and planters wherever slugs are causing damage.
