Narcissus 'Lady Madonna' Bulbs

Narcissus 'Lady Madonna' is an elegant creamy-white daffodil with beautifully reflexed petals surrounding a long, broad and distinctly pleated trumpet.

Growing to just 20–30cm tall, this compact variety has the characteristic swept-back flower form associated with Narcissus cyclamineus, making it particularly attractive in pots, rock gardens and the front of spring borders.

  • Height: 20–30cm
  • Spread: 10–15cm
  • Flower colour: creamy white
  • Flowering time: spring
  • Group: Cyclamineus daffodil
  • Position: full sun or partial shade
  • Soil: fertile, well-drained soil

About Narcissus 'Lady Madonna'

Narcissus 'Lady Madonna' has a graceful flower shape that sets it apart from traditional trumpet daffodils.

The creamy-white outer petals sweep backwards away from the centre of the bloom, giving the flower a light and elegant appearance.

At the centre is a particularly prominent trumpet. Long and broad, it has pronounced pleating along its length and finishes with a delicately frilled rim.

The flower is almost entirely creamy white, creating a clean and refined display that works especially well alongside other pale spring flowers.

'Lady Madonna' is a Cyclamineus daffodil, a group of garden hybrids in which the characteristics of Narcissus cyclamineus are predominant. Their reflexed petals and distinctive flower shape make them easy to recognise.

Benefits for UK Wildlife

Spring-flowering Narcissus can form part of a varied wildlife-friendly garden.

  • Flowers may be visited by spring pollinating insects
  • Adds floral diversity to early-season planting
  • Combines well with other pollinator-friendly spring bulbs

Plant with crocuses, muscari, primroses and other spring flowers to create a longer succession of blooms.

Where to Grow Narcissus 'Lady Madonna'

  • Fronts of spring borders
  • Patio pots and containers
  • Rock gardens
  • Cottage gardens
  • White and cream planting schemes
  • Under deciduous trees and shrubs

Its compact 20–30cm height makes 'Lady Madonna' especially useful towards the front of planting schemes, where its unusual flower shape can be appreciated up close.

Planting Tips

  • Plant bulbs in autumn.
  • Choose a sunny or partially shaded position.
  • Plant approximately 10–15cm deep.
  • Space bulbs around 10cm apart.
  • Plant several bulbs together for a stronger display.

After flowering, remove faded blooms but allow the foliage to yellow and die back naturally. This allows the leaves to replenish the bulbs ready for flowering the following spring again.
