Narcissus 'Jack Sparrow' Bulbs

Narcissus 'Jack Sparrow' is a cheerful, compact daffodil producing crisp white petals surrounding a bright yellow cup.

Flowering early in the season from February to March and growing just 20–30cm tall, it is an excellent variety for naturalising, border edges, rock gardens and spring containers.

  • Height: 20–30cm
  • Spread: 10–15cm
  • Flower colour: white with a bright yellow cup
  • Flowering time: February to March
  • Position: full sun or partial shade
  • Soil: fertile, well-drained soil

About Narcissus 'Jack Sparrow'

Narcissus 'Jack Sparrow' combines the classic colours of a daffodil with a smaller, more delicate flower form.

The blooms feature clean white outer petals arranged around a prominent golden-yellow central cup. The cup is gently flared with a lightly frilled rim, adding extra texture to the flowers.

The contrast between the bright yellow centre and white petals makes the blooms stand out particularly well against the plant's narrow green foliage.

At only 20–30cm tall, 'Jack Sparrow' is ideal for positions towards the front of a border where taller daffodils could become overpowering. Its compact growth also makes it particularly useful for pots and smaller gardens.

Flowering during February and March, it provides welcome colour at a time when relatively few other garden plants are in full bloom.

Benefits for UK Wildlife

Its early flowering period makes Narcissus 'Jack Sparrow' a useful addition to a varied wildlife-friendly spring garden.

  • Flowers may be visited by early bees and other pollinating insects
  • Provides early-season flowers during February and March
  • Combines well with other early pollinator-friendly bulbs

Plant alongside crocuses, snowdrops and early primroses to create a succession of flowers at the beginning of spring.

Where to Grow Narcissus 'Jack Sparrow'

  • Naturalised areas
  • Fronts of spring borders
  • Patio pots and containers
  • Rock gardens
  • Cottage gardens
  • Under deciduous trees and shrubs

'Jack Sparrow' is particularly well suited to naturalising. Plant bulbs in informal groups and, in suitable conditions, they can gradually establish into larger displays over the years.

Planting Tips

  • Plant bulbs in autumn.
  • Choose a sunny or partially shaded position.
  • Plant approximately 10–15cm deep.
  • Space bulbs around 10cm apart.
  • For naturalising, plant in informal groups rather than straight rows.

After flowering, remove faded blooms but leave the foliage untouched until it has yellowed and died back naturally. This allows the bulbs to replenish their energy ready for the following year's flowers.
