Narcissus 'Happy Smiles' Bulbs

Narcissus 'Happy Smiles' is a particularly cheerful daffodil with creamy white petals surrounding a soft yellow cup finished with a beautifully frilled apricot-orange rim.

Growing to around 40cm tall and flowering in mid-spring, its outward-facing blooms are perfect for borders, containers and colourful mixed bulb displays.

  • Height: about 40cm
  • Spread: 10–15cm
  • Flower colour: creamy white with a soft yellow cup and apricot-orange rim
  • Flowering time: mid-spring
  • Position: full sun or partial shade
  • Soil: fertile, free-draining soil

About Narcissus 'Happy Smiles'

Narcissus 'Happy Smiles' has an attractive, well-balanced flower form that allows its unusual colouring to take centre stage.

Six broad, rounded outer petals open in a creamy white shade, surrounding a prominent central cup. The cup begins soft yellow towards the centre before developing warmer golden and apricot tones around its edge.

The frilled apricot-orange rim provides a strong but delicate contrast against the pale petals, making the flowers particularly attractive when viewed up close.

The blooms face outwards rather than hanging down, so their colourful centres remain clearly visible throughout the display.

At approximately 40cm tall, 'Happy Smiles' is versatile enough for both garden borders and containers, and its mid-spring flowering period makes it easy to combine with many other seasonal bulbs.

Benefits for UK Wildlife

Spring-flowering Narcissus can form part of a varied wildlife-friendly planting scheme.

  • Flowers may be visited by spring pollinating insects
  • Adds floral diversity to spring gardens
  • Combines well with other pollinator-friendly spring flowers

Mix with grape hyacinths, crocuses and other spring flowers to create a longer succession of blooms.

Where to Grow Narcissus 'Happy Smiles'

  • Spring garden borders
  • Patio pots and containers
  • Cottage gardens
  • Mixed bulb displays
  • Under deciduous trees and shrubs

The outward-facing flowers make this variety particularly suitable for prominent positions where its colourful centres can be appreciated.

Planting Tips

  • Plant bulbs in autumn.
  • Choose a sunny or partially shaded position.
  • Plant approximately 10–15cm deep.
  • Space bulbs around 10cm apart.
  • Plant several bulbs together for a stronger display.

After flowering, remove faded blooms but allow the foliage to yellow and die back naturally. This allows the leaves to replenish the bulbs so they can return and flower again the following spring.
