Narcissus 'Exotic Mystery' Bulbs

Narcissus 'Exotic Mystery' is an unusual split-corona daffodil producing soft sherbet-lemon flowers with a delicate fragrance.

Flowering in April and reaching around 30–50cm tall, its distinctive ruffled blooms make an eye-catching addition to spring borders, containers and mixed bulb displays.

  • Height: 30–50cm
  • Spread: 10–15cm
  • Flower colour: sherbet lemon
  • Flowering time: April
  • Fragrance: lightly fragrant
  • Position: full sun or partial shade
  • Soil: fertile, well-drained soil

About Narcissus 'Exotic Mystery'

Narcissus 'Exotic Mystery' stands apart from more traditional daffodils thanks to its unusual split-corona flowers.

The blooms are a soft sherbet-lemon yellow, with the central corona opening into broad, frilled segments rather than forming the familiar trumpet or cup.

In split-corona daffodils, the corona is divided for at least one-third of its length. This allows the segments to spread across the surrounding petals, creating a fuller, almost ruffled appearance.

'Exotic Mystery' also offers a delicate fragrance, adding another dimension to its attractive spring display.

Flowering during April, the blooms rise above upright, strap-like green foliage and provide plenty of interest during the heart of the spring bulb season.

Benefits for UK Wildlife

Spring-flowering Narcissus can contribute to a varied wildlife-friendly garden.

  • Flowers may be visited by bees and other spring pollinators
  • Adds floral diversity during the spring months
  • Combines well with other early flowering bulbs

Plant alongside crocuses, muscari and other spring flowers to create a longer succession of blooms.

Where to Grow Narcissus 'Exotic Mystery'

  • Spring garden borders
  • Patio pots and containers
  • Cottage gardens
  • Mixed bulb displays
  • Under deciduous trees and shrubs

The unusual flower form makes 'Exotic Mystery' particularly effective where the blooms can be appreciated up close, such as beside paths or in patio containers.

Planting Tips

  • Plant bulbs in autumn.
  • Choose a sunny or partially shaded position.
  • Plant approximately 10–15cm deep.
  • Space bulbs around 10cm apart.
  • Plant in groups for the strongest spring display.

After flowering, remove spent blooms but allow the foliage to yellow and die back naturally. This gives the bulbs time to replenish their energy before dormancy.
