Narcissus 'Altun Ha' Bulbs

Narcissus 'Altun Ha' is an unusual spring-flowering daffodil valued for the changing colour of its elegant blooms.

The flowers open a bright lemon yellow before gradually fading as they mature, with the central cup eventually becoming pure white. This transformation creates an attractive mixture of yellow and cream-white shades when several flowers are open together.

  • Height: 35–45cm
  • Spread: 10–15cm
  • Flower colour: bright lemon yellow, fading with age to a pure white cup
  • Flowering time: spring
  • Position: full sun or partial shade
  • Soil: fertile, well-drained soil

About Narcissus 'Altun Ha'

Narcissus 'Altun Ha' produces substantial daffodil flowers on upright stems above narrow green foliage.

Freshly opened blooms are dominated by clear lemon-yellow colouring, giving them a bright and cheerful appearance.

As each flower matures, its colouring becomes progressively paler. The trumpet-shaped cup changes most noticeably, eventually becoming pure white while the surrounding petals retain softer yellow tones.

This changing colour means that an established group can display several different shades at the same time, adding extra interest to a spring bulb display.

Growing to around 35–45cm tall, 'Altun Ha' is well suited to both garden borders and containers.

Benefits for UK Wildlife

Spring-flowering Narcissus can form a useful part of a wildlife-friendly garden.

  • Flowers may be visited by early pollinating insects
  • Adds floral diversity to spring planting
  • Combines well with other early flowering bulbs

Plant alongside crocuses, muscari and other spring flowers to provide a longer succession of blooms.

Where to Grow Narcissus 'Altun Ha'

  • Spring garden borders
  • Patio pots and containers
  • Cottage gardens
  • Mixed bulb displays
  • Under deciduous trees and shrubs

Plant several bulbs together in groups or informal drifts to emphasise the changing colours of the flowers.

Planting Tips

  • Plant bulbs in autumn.
  • Choose a sunny or partially shaded position.
  • Plant approximately 10–15cm deep.
  • Space bulbs around 10cm apart.
  • Water after planting if conditions are particularly dry.

Once flowering has finished, remove faded blooms but allow the foliage to yellow and die back naturally. This allows the leaves to replenish the bulbs for the following year's display.
