Gladiolus communis ssp. byzantinus bulbs produce a remarkable plant, featuring tall, slender stems with large, sword-shaped leaves. Its numerous conical flowers reach nearly the same height as the stem, and boast a vibrant magenta hue, often flecked with a lighter coloration on the inner petals.
Gladiolus communis ssp. byzantinus thrives in moist, aerated soils with plenty of sunlight. To protect its tall stems from strong gusts, this species may be planted in more sheltered areas. Gladiolus communis makes an excellent choice for naturalizing, easily propagating, and displaying as a cut flower.
