The Allium 'Purple Rain' is a plant fit for a king (or a prince). This stunning allium features star-shaped purple flowers on long stems that reach skywards. The Purple Rain is an autumn bulb and as such should be planted late in the year from September to December. This beautiful plant will then bloom in late spring through early summer and reach a maximum height of 90cm. The Purple Rain is also a recipient of the Award of Garden Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society.
The Allium 'Purple Rain' does best when planted about 10cm deep in well-drained, nutrient-rich soil in a sunny area of the garden. Taller alliums like this one can also benefit from shelter on one side to help prevent the tall flower spikes from being blown over.
