The Allium cristophii, also commonly known as Persian onion or 'Star of Persia' is a stunning plant and a recipient of the Award of Garden Merit. The Persian onion is an interesting allium with purple, star-shaped flowers with small yellow-green centres. The Allium cristophii is best planted late in the year from September to December for stunning blooms starting in early summer in June. The plant grows to a maximum of 50cm when fully grown.
This allium does best when planted around 10cm deep in well-drained and nutrient-rich soil. The plant can also benefit from shelter on one side to help protect it from the wind.
