A vigorous vine with twinning tendencies that effectively covers fences and walls has delicate, round leaves that remain on the plant during the winter months and produces clusters of purple and ivory-white flowers in late spring.

Optimal planting times for Akebia are in autumn or spring, in moist, fertile, well-drained soil of various pH levels and textures, including chalk, clay, sand, or loam. This versatile plant thrives in both acidic, alkaline, or neutral conditions and is best suited for full sun or partially shaded sheltered areas.

Flowering time: April - June

Max height: 2m
