Slugs are one of the most destructive garden pests, feeding on a wide range of plants and leaving behind ragged holes in leaves, stems and even flowers. Young seedlings are especially vulnerable and can be wiped out overnight, while established plants suffer ongoing damage that weakens growth and spoils their appearance. If left unchecked, slug populations can quickly build up, particularly in damp conditions.

How to Control Slugs

Agralan Slug Nematodes offer a highly effective, wildlife-friendly solution to slug problems without the need for chemicals. These naturally occurring, UK-native microscopic worms (Phasmarhabditis sp.) actively seek out slugs in the soil. Once inside, they release bacteria that stop the slug from feeding, causing it to retreat underground, where it dies. The nematodes then multiply within the slug, helping to provide ongoing control and reduce future populations.

How to Use Slug Nematodes

Supplied as an easy-to-mix powder, simply dilute the nematodes with water and apply using a watering can or garden sprayer. For best results, apply to moist soil or compost when temperatures are above 5°C. Treat your garden between March and October, when slugs are most active. A follow-up application 6–8 weeks later is recommended for continued protection, especially during peak slug season. Keep the soil moist after application to help the nematodes move and work effectively.
