Picea (Spruces)

Picea, commonly known as spruces, are evergreen conifers that offer year-round shelter for UK wildlife. Their dense branches provide nesting sites for birds like goldcrests and coal tits. The thick foliage also protects small mammals from predators and harsh weather.

Spruces support biodiversity by hosting insects that birds feed on. Their seeds attract squirrels and crossbills. Planting Picea in gardens or woodlands can strengthen local ecosystems. These trees thrive in well-drained soil and prefer sunny spots.
