Myriophyllum (Water Milfoil)
Myriophyllum is a powerhouse for pond wildlife, with its feathery underwater foliage creating vital habitat. The dense stems shelter fish fry, tadpoles, and aquatic invertebrates like mayfly larvae, while also oxygenating the water. Dragonflies and damselflies use the plants as perches and egg-laying sites, and the submerged leaves provide cover for pond snails and water beetles. Above the surface, its delicate emergent flowers attract hoverflies. Fast-growing and low-maintenance, Myriophyllum helps maintain clear, healthy water—making it ideal for wildlife ponds, where it supports entire food chains while adding graceful movement.
